Obituary for John P. Mitchell
JOHN P. MITCHELL “Mitch” passed away peacefully on October 15, 2018 at Methodist Hospital with his wife of 60 years by his side. He was born and raised in the “Neck” of South Philly. John was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Korea and later retired as a Philadelphia Police Officer after 30 years of service. Following his retirement from the City of Philadelphia, he worked as a U.S. Mint Police Officer. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed listening to country music and hunting with his buddies. He loved both camping and playing cards with his family. John is the beloved husband of Edna F. (nee Kohlenberg); loving father of Edna Mitchell, Linda (Anthony) Tulino, Donna (Jim) Rhoades; dearest Pop of George (Katie) Johnson, John (Kayla) Johnson, Amie Curran, Danny Curran, Andrew Tulino, Ryan Tulino, Caitlin (Charlie Graening), Jimmy Rhoades and great granddaughter Madison Taraska; brother of Edward and the late William, Reiney, Pearl “Margie” Ney, Mary Hagendorf, Richard “Richie”. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives, friends, and members of the Philadelphia Police Department FOP #5 are invited to his Visitation Friday 9-11 AM at the Murphy Ruffenach, Brian W. Donnelly Funeral Home (3rd & Wolf Sts.). Funeral Home Religious Service is at 11 AM followed by the Entombment Glenwood Memorial Cemetery.
